Soft Claws® Nail Caps are a simple alternative to declawing when pet scratching is a problem. They are easy to apply an perfect for cats of all ages. They are vinyl nail caps that are glued on to your cat’s existing nails. They look like a cat’s nail, only hollow. When applied to your cat’s front paws, they reduce the potential for damage due to your cat’s natural clawing and sharpening behavior. The take home kit includes nail caps for front paw application.

Are Soft Claws® Nail Caps Safe For my Cat?

Yes, Soft Claws® does not interfere with the normal extension and retraction of your cat’s claws. Normally, as you cat’s nails grow, she will lose the outer sheath every 4-6 weeks. When Soft Claws® are applied to your cat’s nails, she will still lose the outer sheath, and the nail cap will fall off with the sheath. Then, you simply attach a new nail cap to your cat’s bare nail.

Fast-growing or large-breed kittens may need size small and sometimes small-boned adult cats will also wear size small. If your cat seems smaller than an average full-grown cat, choose small.

How do I Apply Soft Claws® Nail Caps?

Step One: Trim you cat’s nails. If you aren’t sure how to do this, or your cat’s nails are naturally black and you can’t see the vein, have your veterinarian show you how to do it. You can cause your cat great pain if you don’t know what you’re doing. Make sure your cat’s nails are clean and free from dust or grit before you begin. If necessary, clean with a cotton swab moistened with alcohol.

Step Two: Fill nail caps 1/3 full with adhesive. Select nail cap sizes that will cover at least 3/4 of the nail. Kitten-size caps may be too long for some nails. These can be trimmed back from the open end with your nail trimmers for a custom fit.

Remove the adhesive cap and cut off the tip. Attach applicator to tip, Insert nozzle completely into the nail cap and fill 1/3 full with adhesive-do not overfill. Before beginning application, fill 10 caps with adhesive.

Step Three: Apply caps to nails. Extend cat’s nail by grasping paw between thumb and forefinger and gently push nail forward from the top until fully exposed. Slide cap fully onto nail.

Step Four: After all nail caps are applied, observe your cat for at least five minutes to make sure nail caps are secure and that your cat does not attempt to remove them.

Soft Claws® should last approximately 4-6 weeks (two to three weeks on kittens). When re-applying nail caps, remove any remaining material first by peeling or chipping off with nail trimmer (avoid vein). Do not let your cat’s nails grow for more than 12 weeks without trimming them and replacing all the nail caps.

What if I Buy the Wrong Size?

When you receive your package, take one of the nail caps out and try it on your cat’s claws without the glue first. If it doesn’t fit like a glove, it’s the wrong size. You can send it back and exchange it for another size. Don’t open the glue and make sure all the contents are present. Be sure to send it in a padded mailer so it stays in new condition.
