Signs your cat has Giardiasis

This disease is a relatively common, though often undiagnosed, cause of chronic diarrhea, causing loose or watery motions, sometimes with mucus.

Causes

A single-celled parasite called giardia, that is passed by fecal contamination from cat to cat, particularly in conditions of poor hygiene or overcrowded housing. The organism can be identified in a stool sample examined under the microscope, although sometimes multiple samples have to be examined as the organism is only shed intermittently.

Treatment

A Course of a specific antibiotic called metronidazole can be used to cure this condition.
